FLAC to MP3
Shrink lossless FLAC music into MP3s that play almost everywhere.
FLAC is lossless: it keeps every detail of a recording in about half the space of WAV, which makes it popular for music collections and high-resolution downloads. MP3 takes far less space again and plays on almost every kind of device, from phones to car stereos.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert FLAC to MP3
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your FLAC files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
Bitrate for music
Music from FLAC deserves a high bitrate. At 256 or 320 kbps most listeners can't tell the MP3 from the FLAC, and 192 kbps is a reasonable saving for a phone. The default 128 kbps suits speech and background listening more than music.
High-resolution files
FLACs at 24-bit or 96 kHz carry more than MP3 can hold, so the MP3 is made at a standard sample rate like any other. Keep the FLAC as your master copy and make MP3s for everyday listening.
Tags, art and limits
Track names, artists and album details are removed by default, so tick “Keep photo details” in the settings if you want them in the MP3. Embedded album art isn't copied.
Each FLAC counts as one ordinary file. With a free account you can convert 20 a day, each up to 500 MB, on Filebender's servers, and files are deleted an hour after converting.

Questions
Can I convert a whole album at once?
Yes. Add every track together, set the bitrate once for all of them, and download the MP3s in one ZIP.
Why not keep FLAC?
If your player handles FLAC and you have the space, do. MP3 is for devices and apps that don't play FLAC, and for fitting more music on a phone.
Will the MP3 be as good as the FLAC?
Not identical, since MP3 leaves detail out, but at 320 kbps the difference is very hard to hear. You can't get FLAC quality back from an MP3, so keep the originals.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
