PNG to JPG

Convert PNG images to smaller JPGs.

PNG keeps every pixel, which is right for screenshots and graphics but makes photos heavy. JPG was made for photos: it drops detail you're unlikely to notice, and the file often shrinks to a fraction of the PNG's size. Convert when a site, a form or an email needs a smaller file or insists on JPG.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your PNG files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Transparent areas

JPG can't be see-through. Wherever the PNG was transparent, soft edges around a cut-out logo included, the colour is blended onto a fill: white unless you choose another under “Fill for transparent areas” in the settings. Pick the colour of the page the picture will sit on and the edges blend in.

Quality and size

JPGs are saved at quality 82 by default, where most photos look unchanged. Lower it for smaller files, or raise it if you see blotches around text. Screenshots full of lettering and flat colour can show faint smudges as JPG, so keeping them as PNG or trying WEBP is often wiser.

Where it's converted

A PNG of up to 50 MB in standard sRGB colour usually converts on your device and is never uploaded; its row tells you before you start. You still need to be signed in to your account, and each file counts against your allowance like any other. Settings such as a target size or keeping photo details send the file to Filebender's servers instead.

Questions

Can I get the JPG under a certain size?

Yes. Choose Target size in the settings and give a size in KB or MB: Filebender adjusts the quality to land within 10% under the size you choose, and never over it. If it can't get there at this size in pixels, it says so and names the smallest it managed.

Will the JPG look worse than the PNG?

At the default quality, rarely for photos. Sharp text and thin lines are where JPG shows its compression first, as faint halos.

How many can I convert?

Each PNG counts as one file. With a free account that's 20 a day, each up to 500 MB, and a pass raises both.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG has no transparency, so they're filled with white, or any colour you pick in the settings.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
