No ads · No watermarks · Files deleted after an hour
RAR to ZIP
Convert RAR and 7Z archives to ZIP, which Windows and macOS open without an extra app.
The person you send it to can open a ZIP on a computer or a phone without installing anything. Every file and folder inside is kept as it was.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert RAR to ZIP
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
Why ZIP
RAR and 7Z pack files tightly, which is why large downloads often come in them, but on many devices opening one needs an extra app. ZIP is built into Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android, so it's the safe choice for sharing.
How it's done
Filebender checks the archive, unpacks it on its servers and packs every file and folder into a new ZIP at the strongest compression ZIP has. File names, folders and contents stay the same; only the packaging changes.
Size and limits
A ZIP is often a little bigger than the RAR or 7Z it came from, since those formats compress more tightly. If size matters more than convenience, choose 7Z on the Archive Converter instead.
Archives with a password can't be opened, and neither can archives holding more than 10,000 files or expanding past 4 GB.

Questions
Can I take the files out instead?
Yes: choose Extract files as the format, and each file downloads on its own or all together in a ZIP. Unpacking counts as one file.
Is anything inside changed?
No. Files are copied into the ZIP byte for byte; only the wrapping around them is new.
What if the RAR has a password?
It's refused, because Filebender can't open it. Extract it with its password on your computer, then zip the files there.
Can it turn a ZIP into a RAR?
No. Filebender reads RAR archives but doesn't make them: ZIP, 7Z and TAR.GZ are the archive formats it writes.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
Is there a size limit?
With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
