No ads · No watermarks · Files deleted after an hour
Document Converter
Convert Word, OpenDocument, RTF, Markdown and HTML documents to PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown or EPUB.
Apple Pages files and plain text work here too, and PDFs can be rebuilt as documents you can edit. Before anything runs, a note says what the new format will drop.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to use the Document Converter
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
Which format to choose
PDF fixes the layout, so a document looks the same on almost any screen or printer. DOCX is what most word processors open and edit, and ODT is the OpenDocument format several office suites use. Markdown suits notes and websites, EPUB turns a document into an ebook that reflows to fit the screen, and plain text keeps only the words.
What changes on the way
A document made into Markdown keeps its headings, lists, links and simple tables, but not its pictures. Plain text keeps the words and drops everything else.
HTML files are cleaned before they're converted: scripts, embedded frames and anything that would load from another website are removed, so pictures linked from the web are left out while pictures inside the file stay.
From a PDF
A PDF only records where each line sits on the page, so its layout has to be rebuilt to make an editable document. Pages with columns, text boxes or many pictures can shift. A scanned PDF has no text to rebuild, so its words are read with OCR instead.

Questions
Will the layout stay the same?
Into PDF, yes, with any font the server doesn't have swapped for a close match. Between editable formats, most formatting carries over. Out of a PDF, the layout is rebuilt, so check pages with columns or boxes.
Can it open Apple Pages documents?
Yes, as a best effort: fonts and some of the layout may change. For the closest result, export the document from Pages as a Word file first.
What happens to pictures in a document?
They stay in PDF, DOCX, ODT and EPUB, and a document converted to HTML carries them inside the one file. Markdown and plain text leave them out.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
