File Converter

Convert, compress and resize images, video, audio, documents, ebooks and archives, all in one place.

Add a file and Filebender lists what it can become, grouped by type, with the most used choices first. Each file can go its own way: a photo to WEBP and a report to PDF in the same batch.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to convert a file

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Know what you'll get before it runs

Filebender reads the start of each file to find out what it really is, so a PNG saved with a .jpg name is converted as the PNG it is, and the page tells you. Before anything runs, a short note says what the new format will lose, such as transparency in a JPG or formulas in a CSV.

Video, audio and many pictures also get a size estimate first, so you can change the settings if the result would be too big. Documents, ebooks and archives show their size once they're done.

Settings for one file, or all of them

The gear on a file opens its settings: size, quality, the video codec, the page size of a PDF, the colour that fills transparent areas, and whether to keep photo details. Only the settings that apply to that file are shown. Presets such as Web, Email and Print fill them in for you, and you can save your own in this browser.

Where files come from and go

Files can come from your computer or phone, from Google Drive, or from a link to a public web page. Results download one at a time or together in a ZIP, and can be saved back to Drive.

Some photos never leave your device: when your browser can, a JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, AVIF or still GIF of up to 50 MB becomes a JPG, PNG or WEBP right there. It still counts as one file like any other, and you need to be signed in to your account.

Questions

Which formats can it convert?

Images (JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PSD and camera RAW), vector art (SVG, EPS, AI), video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI and more), audio (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more), documents, spreadsheets, presentations, ebooks and archives. The list next to each file shows only what that file can become.

Why was my file refused?

Filebender says why. The usual reasons are a copy-protected (DRM) ebook, a password on an archive or PDF, a damaged file, or a format the file can't become, in which case it names the ones it can.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes, and each counts once against your allowance. A batch that would go over it is refused before anything is converted, saying what's left.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

Why do I need an account?

Every plan needs an account, including the free plan. Your daily allowance and any pass you buy are kept with your account, and accounts keep automated abuse out. Making one costs nothing, with Google or your email address, and you can start converting as soon as it's ready.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.

Is there a size limit?

With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
