Image Compressor
Make JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF images smaller, by strength or to the size you choose.
The image compressor makes JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF and GIF files smaller and keeps each in its own format. Pick how far to go with Light, Balanced or Strong, or give a size in KB or MB for files that have to fit a limit.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to use the Image Compressor
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Choose how small: a strength, or a target size you choose. The gear button has more settings.
- Press “Compress”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
The three strengths
For JPG, WEBP and AVIF, Light saves at quality 88 out of 100, Balanced at 75 and Strong at 55. Light looks the same as the original; Balanced is much smaller, with differences that are hard to see; Strong makes the smallest files and loses some fine detail.
GIFs are compressed by keeping fewer colours. PNGs stay lossless at every strength, so the strength makes no difference to them.
Fitting a size limit
Give a size and Filebender searches for the highest quality that fits, aiming within 10% under the size you choose and never over. A PNG given a size is reduced to a palette of up to 256 colours to get there. If a picture can't reach that size at its dimensions, you're told the smallest it can make, and resizing takes it further.
Where it's compressed
JPG and WEBP files of up to 50 MB compressed by strength usually stay on your device, which does the work, so they aren't uploaded. They count against your allowance like any other file, and your account has to be signed in. PNG, AVIF and GIF files, and any file given a size in KB or MB, are compressed on Filebender's servers, where PNGs also go through an extra optimiser.

Questions
What if a file gets bigger?
An already well-compressed picture can come out larger. Filebender tells you when that happens, and you can keep the original instead.
Does compressing remove photo details?
Yes, by default: location, camera and date details go, which saves a few kilobytes and keeps where you took a photo private. You can keep them in the settings.
How many at once?
Add a batch and each picture counts as one file. With a free account that's 20 files a day, each up to 500 MB; a pass takes files up to 2 GB.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
