Excel to CSV
Save each sheet of a spreadsheet as its own CSV file.
CSV is the plain text format that databases, accounts packages, mailing lists and scripts import. XLSX, XLS and ODS spreadsheets all work.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert Excel to CSV
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
One CSV for each sheet
A CSV holds a single table, so a workbook with several sheets becomes several CSV files, each with its sheet's name added to the file name. They download one by one or together in a ZIP.
Plain values
Each cell is saved as its raw value, without currency symbols, thousands separators or percentage formatting, so 12% is written as 0.12. Bold, colours, merged cells, charts and pictures are dropped, because CSV has no way to store them.
How the file is written
Fields are separated by commas, a field containing a comma or a line break is put in double quotes, and the file is UTF-8, so accented letters and other alphabets survive.
Opening the CSV again
A spreadsheet app reading a CSV guesses what each column holds, so long numbers such as card or account numbers may show in scientific notation, and codes may lose a leading zero. Import the file and set those columns to text to see them as they are.

Questions
What happens to formulas?
Their results are saved, not the formulas themselves. CSV can't store formulas, so keep the XLSX if you'll need them.
Why do accents look wrong when I open the CSV?
The file is UTF-8, and some spreadsheet apps assume an older text encoding when they open a CSV directly. Import it instead and choose UTF-8, and the letters show correctly.
Can I get JSON instead?
Yes. Choose JSON in the file's format list: each row becomes an object, named by the headings in the first row.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
