PDF Tools

Convert PDFs to Word, pictures and text, compress them, merge and split them, turn and remove pages, and make scans searchable. Drop a PDF here, or pick a tool below.

Everything Filebender does with PDFs starts here. Drop a PDF in the box to convert it, or pick one of the tools below to work on its pages.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to convert a PDF

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your PDF files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Converting a PDF

A PDF can become a Word or OpenDocument file, plain text, Markdown, HTML or an EPUB ebook, or pictures of its pages as JPG, PNG, WEBP or SVG. Text comes out as text you can edit, and each page can become a picture of its own.

A scan with no text in it is read with text recognition first. Searchable PDF adds a hidden layer of text to a scan so you can search and copy it, up to 50 pages a file on the free plan and 500 with a pass.

Making a PDF smaller

Compress PDF shrinks the pictures inside a PDF. Choose a strength, or type the size you want in MB and Filebender aims just under it. The gear also offers the picture resolutions by name: Email, Ebook and Print.

Working on the pages

Merge puts PDFs, and JPG or PNG pictures, into one PDF. Split cuts a PDF into parts at the pages you choose. Organise, Rotate and Delete pages show a picture of every page, so you can drag pages into order, turn them the right way up and take out the ones you don't need.

These page tools work in your browser, so the PDFs stay on your device. They need your account like everything else, and each merge, split or saved PDF counts as one file.

Questions

Which tool do I need?

To change a PDF into another kind of file, drop it in the box at the top. To change its pages, use Merge, Split, Organise, Rotate or Delete pages. To make it smaller, use Compress PDF.

Can I edit the text inside a PDF?

Not in the PDF itself. Convert it to Word, change the text there, then turn it back into a PDF with Word to PDF.

What about a PDF with a password?

One that needs a password to open can't be converted or changed: open it in a PDF reader with its password and save a copy without one. One that only limits printing or editing can be used in the page tools, and the result doesn't keep those limits.

How many files does it use?

Each PDF you convert or compress counts as one file. A merge, a split or a PDF saved from the page tools counts as one file too, however many pages or parts it has.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

Why do I need an account?

Every plan needs an account, including the free plan. Your daily allowance and any pass you buy are kept with your account, and accounts keep automated abuse out. Making one costs nothing, with Google or your email address, and you can start converting as soon as it's ready.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.

Is there a size limit?

With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
