No ads · No watermarks · Files deleted after an hour
PDF to Word
Turn PDFs into editable Word documents.
PDFs made on a computer and scans from a copier or a phone both work: a scan's words are read with OCR. You get a DOCX that opens in any word processor, ready to edit.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert PDF to Word
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your PDF files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
How the document is rebuilt
A PDF records where each line sits on the page, not how paragraphs flow, so Filebender rebuilds the document from those positions. The text, pictures and most of the formatting come across, but some text may end up in separate blocks, so rewriting long passages can take some tidying.
Scanned PDFs
If the first pages have no text layer, the PDF is a scan, and its words are read with OCR instead. The Word document then has the text, a paragraph for each block and a new page for each page, but not the pictures, tables or layout. In the settings, choose the languages the PDF is written in, up to three.
OCR reads up to 50 pages a file on the free plan and 500 with a pass.
Getting a cleaner result
Letters, reports and CVs convert most cleanly. Forms, brochures set in columns and pages with text over pictures are the hardest. If you only need the words, converting to TXT on the PDF Converter gives a clean copy with no layout to fix.

Questions
Will the Word document match the PDF?
Closely for simple pages, less so for complex ones. Check pages with columns, text boxes or form fields, which can shift when the layout is rebuilt.
Why are some words wrong in my document?
That happens with scans: OCR can misread names, numbers and unusual words, and it struggles with handwriting, blurred pages and small print. Check the result against the PDF, and set the right language before you convert.
Can I get ODT instead of DOCX?
Yes. Add the PDF on the PDF Converter or the Document Converter and choose ODT, the OpenDocument format. The layout is rebuilt in the same way.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
