MP4 to GIF
Turn video clips into animated GIFs.
MP4 to GIF turns a video clip into an animation that plays by itself, loops for ever and works anywhere a picture does: chats, forums, documentation and slides. MOV and WEBM clips work too.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert MP4 to GIF
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
What a GIF can hold
GIF has no sound and at most 256 colours per picture. Filebender builds the palette from the clip's own colours and dithers between them, which keeps skin tones and gradients reasonable, but busy, colourful footage looks grainier than the video.
Keeping it small
GIF's compression is simple, so the file grows quickly with length, width and frame rate. The GIF frame rate is 15 a second by default, and 10 is often enough for screen recordings. Make it narrower in the settings, and press Trim to keep only the seconds you need.
Given a size in KB or MB, Filebender makes the GIF narrower step by step until it fits, and tells you if even a much smaller one won't.
How it counts
A GIF made from a video counts as one of your videos. With a free account that's 2 of your 20 files a day, each up to 500 MB, and a pass allows more. The clip is converted on Filebender's servers and deleted an hour after converting.

Questions
What if the GIF is too big to share?
Choose animated WEBP instead: it moves like a GIF, keeps far more colours and is usually much smaller, and current browsers and many apps show it. Where sound or length matters, keep it as MP4.
Can I choose where the GIF starts?
Yes. Press Trim on the video, drag the handles or type the times, and only that part becomes the GIF.
Does the GIF loop?
Yes, for ever, like most GIFs people share.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
