PDF Converter

Turn PDFs into Word, text, Markdown, EPUB or images, and turn documents, slides and pictures into PDF.

Add any mix of files and choose what each becomes: a PDF can go to a document, text or pictures, and almost anything else can become a PDF, with the page size and picture quality up to you.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to use the PDF Converter

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your PDF files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Out of a PDF

A PDF can become DOCX or ODT to edit, plain text or Markdown, HTML, EPUB, or a picture of each page as JPG, PNG or WEBP. It can also become an SVG, though only its first page is used.

When a PDF's pages are scans with no text layer, the words are read with OCR for Word, text and the other document formats, and you get the words without the layout. OCR reads up to 50 pages a file on the free plan and 500 with a pass.

Into a PDF

Word, OpenDocument, RTF, Markdown, HTML and text documents, Excel and CSV spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Keynote slides, ebooks, and photos in JPG, PNG, HEIC and most other picture formats all become PDFs. The page size can stay as it is or be set to A4 or Letter.

PDF to PDF

Adding a PDF and choosing PDF again compresses it: the pictures inside get smaller while the text stays as text. The settings choose how far, from Print (300 DPI) to Email (72 DPI), or take a size in MB to get under.

Merging PDFs, splitting one, or reordering, turning and removing pages happens on your device with the PDF page tools. Each PDF made there counts as one file, and you need to be signed in to your account.

Questions

Can it convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Yes. Filebender notices when the first pages have no text, reads the words with OCR in the languages you choose, and puts them in the Word document a page at a time. Pictures, tables and the layout aren't kept; to keep the pages as they look, make it a searchable PDF instead.

What about a PDF with a password?

One that needs a password to open can't be converted. Open it in a PDF reader with the password, save a copy without one, and convert the copy.

Can I make one PDF from several files?

Converting makes a PDF for each file you add. To join them, convert each one, then put them together with Merge PDF, which counts the joined PDF as one more file.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
