Video to MP3

Take the soundtrack out of a video as an MP3.

Video to MP3 keeps the sound from a video and drops the picture: a talk, a lecture, a song from a music video, a voice note someone filmed. MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI and most other video formats work.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to convert Video to MP3

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Quality

The MP3 is saved at 128 kbps by default, fine for speech and most listening. Choose 192 to 320 kbps in the settings for music. A higher bitrate than the video's own sound can't add quality back, so 320 kbps is only worth it when the source was good.

Which sound is kept

Only the first audio track comes out. A video with several tracks, such as a film with commentary or other languages, gives the first one. A video with no sound at all is refused, with that reason.

How it counts

Taking the sound out of a video counts as an ordinary file, not one of your videos, so it leaves your video allowance alone. With a free account you get 20 files a day, each up to 500 MB; with a pass, files up to 2 GB. The video is handled on Filebender's servers and deleted an hour after converting.

Questions

Can I take only part of the sound?

Yes. Press Trim on the video, pick the start and end, and only that stretch becomes the MP3.

Can I get a WAV or AAC instead?

Yes, both are in the format list. WAV is uncompressed and much bigger. AAC is similar to MP3, and when the video's sound is already AAC it's copied straight out without being encoded again.

Are the video's details kept?

Titles and other details stored in the file are removed by default. Tick “Keep photo details” in the settings to carry them into the MP3.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.

Is there a size limit?

With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
