Image Converter

Convert photos and pictures, HEIC and RAW included, to JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP, ICO or PDF.

The image converter takes photos and pictures in JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PSD and camera RAW formats and turns them into JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP, ICO or PDF. Add a picture and the list shows what it can become, with the three most common choices at the top.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to use the Image Converter

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Choosing a format

JPG suits photos you want to share or print: small files, no transparency. PNG keeps every pixel and any see-through areas, which suits screenshots, logos and graphics. WEBP and AVIF make smaller files than JPG at similar quality and current browsers show them, though some older apps can't open them. GIF is for simple animations, ICO for Windows and website icons, and PDF puts the picture on a page.

What changes along the way

Where a picture was transparent, formats that can't be see-through (JPG, BMP and PDF) get a fill colour: white, unless you pick another. An animated GIF or WEBP made into a still format keeps its first frame. A PSD is flattened into one layer, and a TIFF with several pages becomes one JPG, PNG or WEBP per page, delivered in a ZIP.

Photos are turned the right way up, and their location, camera and date details are removed unless you tick “Keep photo details” in the settings.

Where it's converted

A JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, AVIF or single-frame GIF of up to 50 MB, made into JPG, PNG or WEBP, usually converts on your device and isn't uploaded, if your browser and device can handle it; each row says which before you start. Those files count against your allowance like any other, and you need to be signed in to your account. HEIC, TIFF, PSD and RAW files always go to Filebender's servers, as does a PNG kept as a PNG at its own size.

Questions

Which format makes the smallest file?

For photos, AVIF and WEBP usually come out smaller than JPG at a similar quality. PNG loses nothing, so a photo saved as PNG is much bigger; it earns its size on graphics with flat colour and sharp edges.

Can I convert many pictures at once?

Yes. Add them together and choose one format for all of them, or a different one for each file. Each picture counts as one file: with a free account that's 20 a day, each up to 500 MB, and a pass takes files up to 2 GB.

Can it read RAW photos?

Canon CR2, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW and DNG files are developed with standard settings, turned the right way up and saved in the format you choose. Edits made in other software aren't carried over.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
