Resize Video

Change a video's resolution: 4K, 1080p, 720p and more.

Resize Video changes a video's resolution: down from 4K to 1080p for sharing, to 720p or 480p for small screens and tight limits, or to a width and height you set. Fewer pixels mean a smaller file and a quicker upload.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to resize a video

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Enter the new size in pixels or as a percentage. The gear button has more settings.
  4. Press “Resize”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Resolutions

Choose 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p. The number is the short side of the picture, so a portrait phone video at 1080p comes out 1080 pixels wide and its height follows its shape. Sizes are always even numbers, which video codecs need.

Other shapes

In the settings you can set a width and height, or an aspect ratio, instead. Fit inside keeps the whole picture and adds bars; Fill and crop fills the frame and trims the edges; Stretch squeezes the picture into the new shape.

A size bigger than the video enlarges it, which makes the file bigger without adding detail. Untick “Allow enlarging smaller files” to leave smaller videos as they are.

How it counts

A resized video counts as one of your videos: 2 a day with a free account, as part of 20 files, each up to 500 MB; a pass allows more. The video is resized on Filebender's servers, encoded again at constant quality, and deleted an hour after converting.

Questions

Does resizing change the quality?

The picture is encoded again at a constant quality that looks the same at normal viewing. A lower resolution drops fine detail you'd mostly notice on a big screen.

Can I resize and compress at once?

Yes. Set a size in MB in the settings as well, and the bitrate is worked out for the new resolution.

Can I make a vertical video for stories?

Yes. Set 1080 by 1920 pixels in the settings and untick “Keep the shape”, then choose Fill and crop to fill the frame, or Fit inside to keep everything in view.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.

Is there a size limit?

With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
