Video Converter

Convert video to MP4, WEBM, MOV, GIF or animated WEBP, or pull out the audio as MP3.

The video converter takes MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, WMV, FLV, MPEG, 3GP, M4V and raw HEVC files and makes MP4, WEBM or MOV videos, animated GIF or WEBP, or MP3, WAV and AAC sound files. Once a file is added, its format list shows what it can become.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to use the Video Converter

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Formats and codecs

MP4 with H.264 plays on practically every phone, computer, TV and website, which is why it's the default. H.265 often makes noticeably smaller files at the same quality, but some older devices can't play it. VP9 and AV1 are the web's open codecs and go in WEBM files; MOV takes H.264 or H.265 for Apple software.

Quality and speed

By default the picture is encoded at constant quality (CRF 23), which spends data where a scene needs it; lower numbers look better and make bigger files. When the video already uses the codec you've chosen (H.264 unless you change it), the new format can hold it and nothing else changes, Filebender copies the picture across instead of encoding it again. That takes seconds, loses nothing, and the result says so.

What counts as a video

Converting to another video format, or to a GIF or animated WEBP, counts as one of your videos. With a free account you get 20 files a day, 2 of which can be videos, each up to 500 MB; a pass allows more and takes files up to 2 GB. Taking only the sound out as MP3, WAV or AAC counts as an ordinary file.

Video is always converted on Filebender's servers and deleted an hour after converting.

Questions

Can I change the resolution or frame rate?

Yes, in the settings: pick a resolution from 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p, or 60, 30, 24, 15 or 10 frames a second. Lowering either makes a smaller file.

Can I convert just part of a video?

Yes. Press Trim on the file, choose the start and end, and only that part is converted.

Can it convert copy-protected videos?

No. Videos with DRM, such as films bought from a store, are refused and nothing is converted.

Is there a size limit?

With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
