WEBM to MP4
Convert WEBM videos to MP4, which plays on almost every phone and computer.
WEBM is the web's open video format, common for screen recordings made in a browser, clips saved from sites and video exported for the web. MP4 is what phones, editing apps, TVs and presentation software expect, so converting makes a WEBM usable almost anywhere.
Almost any file
Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.
No ads, no watermarks
With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.
Private by default
Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.
How to convert WEBM to MP4
- Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
- Choose your WEBM files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
- Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
- Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.
Encoded again
WEBM usually carries VP8 or VP9 video with Opus or Vorbis sound, which MP4 players handle poorly, so the picture is encoded as H.264 at constant quality (CRF 23) and the sound as AAC at 128 kbps. Every frame is encoded afresh, so a long recording takes a while; the page shows the progress as it goes.
Screen recordings
Recordings of a screen are full of sharp text and flat colour, which H.264 handles well at the default quality. If the file is large, set the frame rate to 30 or lower, or choose 1080p or 720p, since screens are often recorded at their full resolution.
How it counts
Each WEBM made into MP4 counts as one of your videos: 2 a day with a free account, among 20 files, each up to 500 MB. It's converted on Filebender's servers and deleted an hour after converting.

Questions
Will the quality drop?
Slightly, as with any encode, but at the default quality the difference is hard to see. Set CRF to 18 in the settings for a result that looks nearly the same as the original, in a bigger file.
Can I get just the audio?
Yes. Choose MP3, WAV or AAC instead of MP4. Taking the sound out counts as an ordinary file, not a video.
Why not keep it as WEBM?
If it only needs to play in a browser, WEBM is fine. Some editing programs, TVs and presentation apps won't take it, and that's where MP4 helps.
Is Filebender free?
Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
Is there a size limit?
With a free account, each file can be up to 500 MB (about 4 minutes of HD phone video), and a batch can have up to 20 files. Any pass takes files up to 2 GB (about 15 minutes of HD video).
