PDF to PNG

Turn each page of a PDF into a sharp PNG image.

PNG keeps text, diagrams and line art crisp, so it suits pages you'll put on a website, in a slide or in a manual.

Almost any file

Images, vector art, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets, slides, ebooks and archives: more than 400 conversions. Before anything runs, Filebender says what a conversion will lose and estimates the size of video, audio and many pictures; other files show their size once converted. It compresses PDFs, pictures and videos to the size you choose.

No ads, no watermarks

With a free account: 20 files a day, 2 of them videos, each up to 500 MB. No plan has ads, and nothing is stamped on your files. A pass is one payment that never renews, and one you haven't used can be refunded in full.

Private by default

Files are deleted an hour after converting, or at once when you ask, and photo location is removed unless you choose to keep it. Photos converted to JPG, PNG or WebP are done on your device when your browser can, so they never leave it. They still need your account and count towards your plan.

How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email address, or sign in.
  2. Choose your PDF files: drop them on the box, pick them from your computer, open them from Google Drive, or paste a link.
  3. Pick the format each file should become. The gear button has size, quality and other settings.
  4. Press “Convert”, then download each file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Why PNG for pages

PNG is lossless: every pixel is stored exactly, so small type, thin lines and charts stay sharp, where JPG can leave smudges around edges. The trade-off is size: a page of text makes a small PNG, but a page full of photos is several times bigger than the same page as a JPG.

See-through backgrounds

Most PDF pages don't paint a background, so in a PNG the space around the text is transparent. That's useful for placing a page over a design. If you need white, choose JPG, which always has a white background.

Resolution and size

Each page is drawn at 300 DPI and saved as its own numbered file. A different print resolution, a width or a percentage in the settings makes the pictures smaller, for example to fit a website or a slide. The quality slider doesn't change a PNG, but a size in KB or MB does, by using fewer colours.

Questions

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

PNG for pages of text, tables and diagrams. JPG for pages that are mostly photographs, where it makes much smaller files with no difference you'd notice.

Why does the background look black?

It's transparent, not black: some viewers show see-through areas as dark. Open it on a white page, or convert to JPG instead.

How many pages can I convert?

All of them, as long as the PDF is within your plan's file size: 500 MB on the free plan and 2 GB with a pass. A PDF counts as one file however many pictures it makes.

Is Filebender free?

Yes, with a free account: 20 files every day (up to 2 of them videos), each up to 500 MB, with no watermark and no ads. Make the account with Google or your email address. Files converted on your device count the same way as the rest. If you need more, a Day, Week or Month Pass is one payment that never renews; see the Pricing page.

What happens to my files?

It depends on the file. Pictures your browser can convert itself, and everything you do with the PDF tools, from merging and splitting PDFs to putting photos into one, are handled on your device and never leave it, unless you choose to send a file to Filebender's servers. They still need your account: Filebender receives only their type and size, to count them against your plan like any other file. Everything else is converted on Filebender's servers on Google Cloud and deleted an hour after the conversion finishes, or straight away when you press “Delete files now”. Nobody looks at your files, and they're never used for anything else.
